Gear Cutter / Center Lathe Turner

We are looking for someone to primarily work as a Gear Cutter, however it would be advantageous if the candidate has experience on manual lathes and CNC machines. It is important to have the skills to use our machinery safely and accurately to perform a variety of functions. Your job is important since some materials are not easy to shape or handle manually or with conventional equipment.

The successful candidate will work as part of a small team which sees a great variety of components pass through the Machine Shop, so good teamwork and machining capability is essential to achieve the best results in a growing business. 

Responsibilities include:

• Prepare and operate Manual Gear cutting machines to perform tasks
• Mechanical aptitude and good maths skill
• Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints & mechanical drawings
• Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines
• Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specificatio
• Set machines to complete full cycles to fabricate large number of parts
• Supervise the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result
• Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly
• Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality requirements
• Ability to use micrometres, verniers and other precision measuring equipment
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
• A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach
• Good communication abilities

Working Hours: 40 hours + possible overtime
